WATCH: Ealing Repair Cafe uses textiles to turn back the tide of fast-fashion

Ealing Repair Cafe was founded in the spring of 2019 and has since gone from strength to strength through its no-nonsense approach to sustainability.

The club’s founder, Mary Horesh, spoke candidly about the perils of fast-fashion, ranging from its water-contaminating effects to the exploitation of vulnerable labour forces hailing from third-world countries.

Mary explains: “To counter the pernicious effects of corporate greed, we must decide as a collective to wear the clothes that are in our wardrobes, mend and darn any holes or tears, and opt for second-hand.”

Ealing Repair Cafe underscores this premise through the offering of practical solutions to some of the biggest problems facing our planet.

Just when one thinks items of clothing are damaged beyond repair, Mary is keen to impart her wisdom and expertise by successfully salvaging and upcycling old garments – she’s even made a draught excluder from an old pair of jeans!

Attendees are taught just about everything with all abilities catered to.
