Two Enfield Town players have set up a fundraiser for injured fan-favourite striker Jake Cass after he ruptured his achilles in their second game of the season.
Club captain Scott Thomas and long-serving Sam Youngs have started the campaign in support of Cass, who joined the club from Bishop’s Stortford in January 2022.
Cass was the Towners’ top scorer last season with 18 league goals, but will miss the rest of this campaign following the injury.
Despite losing their main striker, Enfield have made an unbeaten start to the season, winning four of their first six games and sitting fourth in the Isthmian Premier.
Following last weekend’s victory over Whitehawk FC, they have also progressed to the third qualifying round of the FA Cup after where they will face Halesowen Town.
The fundraiser, which has almost £3,000 of its £3,600 target at time of writing, aims to cover the private healthcare costs incurred by Cass during his recovery.
Writing on GoFundMe, Thomas and Youngs said: “We are all saddened that Jake won’t be able to grace the football pitch for the rest of season, and we share his own disappointment having to go through yet another long-term injury during his career.
“But we know Jake will come through this and we are asking the football community to show our support to help get him back playing.
“Jake wanted to get the surgery required as soon as he possibly could, paying privately in order to get on the road to recovering quickly. This left him £3k out of pocket, so we are asking for any donations, helping towards covering this cost.
“We know Jake will be grateful for any donations, no matter the size, so let’s show our love and support for him, to help get him back to full fitness.”
