PS5 game prices soar: Gamers face higher costs as major releases top £50

The PS5 continues to dominate the market, but with high prices, is it worth the money?

In London, thousands of people own a PS5, alongside several games per person. These typically range in price, however, major releases often retail for £50 or more.

Popular titles like Marvel’s Spiderman 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rifts Apart, and Demon’s Souls are £70 each.

Despite the high prices, the three games combined sold 16.4 million copies, with Spiderman 2 alone selling 11 million in eight months.

This proves that some people are nearly always willing to spend the money on a game they know they’ll love.

Avid gamer Roshan Jandu said: “Gaming is one of my main hobbies, so naturally I will spend more money.”

Londoners earn the highest average salary in England, taking home around £44,500 per annum. Nevertheless, London is one of the most expensive places to live, meaning that after expenses, the average person living in London is left with £15,400 disposable income. Given that many of the PS5 games cost more than £50, the willingness of people in London to buy them decreases.

In a recent survey, 75% of Londoners said that they would not be willing to buy a PS5 game that costs more than £50.

Demi Barnes, a gamer from London, said: “I would not be willing to spend that much on a single game, even for a PlayStation unless it is a massive lineup or major release.”
