Cinemas to show Queen’s funeral for free

Selected cinemas across the UK have announced they will be broadcasting Her Majesty’s funeral on Monday 19 September. 

Around 150 cinemas throughout the UK will remain open on Monday. These include Curzon, Vue and Arc. All other operators, including Odeon, Cineworld, Picture House and The Light will be closed. 

Seats will be free of charge for those wanting to watch the state funeral in a cinema, however concessions are limited to complimentary bottles of water. No other food and drink will be sold.

Filmgoers will be missing out on movies such as Don’t Worry Darling, See How They Run and Bullet Train. 

In Vue cinemas, all scheduled showings will be cancelled. Vue Dublin Liffey Valley, Vue Limerick, Vue Asbourne, Vue Bristol Cribbs Causeway, Vue Croydon Purley Way, Vue Harrow, Vue Norwich, Vue Plymouth, Vue Birmingham, Vue Stroud, Vue Thurrock, Vue West End, Vue Piccadilly, Vue Islington, Vue Finchley Road and Vue Fulham Broadway will not be showing the funeral or procession.

People are advised to reserve their free seat on the Vue website.

Curzon have said all cinemas will be showing a screening of the funeral. 

In a statement on twitter, Arc Cinema said: “This is a free event but pre-booking your seat is essential. There will be no other shows taking place while the funeral is broadcast.”

The funeral will also be widely available on TV and online including BBC News, BBC One, BBC iPlayer, Sky News, ITV and many other major broadcasting networks.
