WATCH: Oxfam opens pub with prices based on net worth to highlight wealth inequality

For one day on 21 January, Oxfam took over The Queen’s Head in Holborn with the aim of spreading a message of wealth inequality.

The Queen’s Head pub was renamed ‘The Fair Pour’ with customers paying what they could afford for alcohol-free drinks.

The minimum payment was £3, with billionaires encouraged to pay £1million for their beverages.

Max Lawson, Head of Inequality Policy at Oxfam said: “I think it’s really important for people to get an idea of the scale because when you hear a billion or a trillion people lose track with all those numbers.

“I think by thinking about a pint and the idea of a million pound pint, everyone can relate to that.

“A billionaire can afford to pay a £1million pint, they wouldn’t even notice.”

A recent report by Oxfam revealed that billionaire wealth had increased by $2 trillion in 2024, three times faster than in 2023 – rising by approximately $5.7 billion every day.

The event was timed to coincide with the World Economic Forum taking place in Davos.
