Plans for Heathrow expansion opposed by Brentford & Isleworth MP

Brentford & Isleworth MP confirms opposition towards new Heathrow expansion

Brentford & Isleworth MP Ruth Cadbury vowed to oppose the expansion of Heathrow Airport and the construction of a third runway.

Cadbury, a vocal critic of Heathrow’s expansion plans, warned that any move to increase capacity at the airport would lead to congestion for residents.

This comes following the government’s announcement for growth in the capital.

Cadbury said: “I will continue to campaign and stand up for residents across our constituency in the face of Heathrow expansion.

“My position has not changed.”

Cadbury explained that the third runway would not meet the Labour Government’s four tests.

These checkpoints include creating growth that benefits the whole of the UK, adhering to the country’s legally binding climate obligations, minimising local noise pollution, and limiting air pollution.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves described the UK as a country of huge potential which had been held back for too long.

While Heathrow has yet to apply for a Development Consent Order, Cadbury warned that areas like North Brentford, Osterley, and Heston would be heavily impacted if expansion proceeds.

Cadbury previously voted against the third runway in Parliament in 2018 and led Hounslow’s Better not Bigger campaign as a councillor.

She declared her continued commitment to representing constituents who would be directly affected by any expansion.
